The series contains the minutes of the Florida Industrial Commission from 1935 and 1937-1962. The minutes document the topics discussed, decision made, and actions taken by the Commission relating mostly to workmen's compensation and unemployment compensation cases. Other responsibilities of the Commission reflected in the minutes include the enforcement of child labor laws, apprenticeship training, and the licensing of private employment agencies. There are no minutes for 1936 (the Commission may not have met that year) and the minutes from 1963-1969 are missing. The series also contains the minutes of the State Advisory Council, under the Unemployment Compensation Law from 1939-1940.

The Florida Industrial Commission was created in 1935 to administer the Workmen's Compensation Act (Ch. 17481, Laws). In 1937, its functions were broadened by the Unemployment Compensation Act (Ch. 18402, Laws). It was organized into the Divisions of Workmen's Compensation, Unemployment Compensation, and Employment Service. It maintained a statewide system of free public employment offices.
